87th Academy Awards: Nominations for Best Director

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu has been nominated in the Best Direction category in the 87th Academy Awards, for his film Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. The director has also been nominated for the best picture and original screenplay categories. According to the Awards' official site, this is Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's fifth nomination for the Academy Awards. He has been previously nominated for Babel in 2006 under the Best Direction and Best Picture categories.

Richard Linklater has been nominated under the Best Direction category in the 87th Academy Awards, for his film, Boyhood. The film is the story of a 12-year old boy, Mason, and charts his journey even as he faces the realities of life. Richard Linklater has also been nominated for Best Picture and Original Screenplay for the film categories. This is his fifth Academy Award nomination. He was previously nominated for Before Midnight(2013) and Before Sunset (2004).

Wes Anderson has been nominated under the Best Direction category in the 87th Academy Awards, for his film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. The film charts the journey of Monsieur Gustave and Zero Moustafa. The Grand Budapest Hotel has also been nominated in the Best Picture and Original Screenplay categories. Wes Anderson has crafted a tale of two characters and the backdrop of the hotel actually plays a character in the film. This film has earned Wes Anderson his sixth Oscar nomination.

Bennett Miller has been nominated under the Best Direction category in the 87th Academy Awards, for his film, Foxcatcher. The film is a drama film with shades of a crime thriller. Foxcatcher talks about the journey of a wrestler and a team called Foxcatcher. Bennett Miller has also won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival forFoxcatcher. The film is based on the murder of Olympic wrestler, Dave and Mark Schultz.

Morten Tyldum has been nominated under the Best Direction category in the 87th Academy Awards, for his film, The Imitation Game. The film is apparently inspired from the book, Alan Turing: The Enigma which talks about the life and times of the pioneer crypt analyst and mathematician. From capturing the enigmatic scenes about the legend's secret work on the encryption machine to portraying Alan Turing's homosexuality dilemma, Morten Tyldum has showcased it all.
