Riding high on brilliant century by Aaron Finch and five-wicket haul by Mitchell Marsh ensured Australia a handsome 111-run win over England in the second match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Playing in front of packed Melbourne Cricket Stadium, Australia barring few hiccups while they batted, looked on song throughout the match. They defeated England in an one-sided contest with little resistance put up at the end of both innings by English players. One can catch all the video highlights of second match of CWC 2015 between Australia and England on the Official Star Sports Website.
Brought in to bat first by England captain Eoin Morgan, Australia did not look troubled with David Warner and Aaron Finch set the path with 57 run opening stand. However, two back-to-back wickets of Warner and Shane Watson (0) off pace bowler Stuart Broad brought down the scoring rate.
Opening batsman Aaron Finch (135) guided the four-time World Champions to the mammoth total with his sixth century. He got good support from skipper George Bailey (55) and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (66). This is the second highest total at the MCG, with the highest being 344/8 by the ICC World XI against Asia XI in January 2005. At the end of Australian innings, a momentry success was registered by England pacer Steven Finn who picked up 5/71, with the 2015 World Cup’s first hat-trick coming in the last three deliveries of the innings. Finn’s hat-trick at the end brought some smiles across the English faces but their batsmen have a huge task ahead as history shows that Australia have never lost after scoring 300-plus runs while batting first.
In reply to Aussies massive target of 343, England never looked like chasing it down. England were two wickets down under ten overs. But it was Mitchell Marsh who ripped through English batting line up picking up his five wickets in the match.
